I started writ ing.There was a TV show I absolutely loved. I started writing fan fiction. It provided a b
10、eautiful place ofescape from the thoughts swimming in my head. The depression started to lift. I started to feel like myself again.After completing a four-part fan fiction totaling around 12,000 words, I had an idea. 12、 readers will enjoy the twists and turns.And I can see myself in the character. But thats not my real motivation. I wrote it to help people. To give thema place to belong to. A place to talk about this fictional world. The very same thing that saved me last year.If the story provides this to just on
13、e pers on, Ive done my job.With a flock of birds, a group member can ofte n be see n high in the tree act ing as a lookout while therest feed on the grou nd below. When a predator approaches, the lookout sou nds the alarm.To the casual observer, it may appear that the lookout is acting for the good
14、of the greater group, but anew study suggests that the lookout-called a sentinel( 哨兵)-may actually bework ing for itself.While sentinel behavior among groups of birds has bee n observed, Dr. Roni Ostreiher and ProfessorAviad Heifetz rece ntly bega n research ing the sen ti nel behavior of floaters-b
15、irds thathave either been cast out or for other reasons decide to go it alone. What they found was that floaters alsohave similar lookout activities and will sou nd an alarm call if an en emy approaches.This suggests that while the group ben efits from hav ing a lookout, the in sti net to act as the
16、 lookout ismotivated not by the group but by self-preservati on. The sen ti nel may simply be trying to scare away its enemy in stead of warning other birds dow n below.It might be easy to understand that when a floater displays sentinel behavior, the bird is actingfor itself.
