Edisonworkedmainlywithdirectcurrent(DC)power.AlthoughDCwouldproveusefulinthedecadestocome,itwasonlyeffectiveatthetimeforpoweringthingsthatwereaboutamileorlessfromthepowersource.However,alternatingcurrent(AC)power—supportedbyTeslaallowedelectricitytobecarriedoverlongdistancesthroughpowerlines.
