SoGolesworthydevotedhimselftosearchingforawaythatcouldsolvehisproblem.Followinghisnovelway,Golesworthysubjectedhimselfto30hoursinanMRIscanner,used3Dprintingtocreateaphysicalcopyofthefaultypartofhisheartandthenusedsofttextilemesh(网状物)tomakeasleevetofitaroundit.
Eventually,hisdeterminationcoupledwiththeoriginalyetpracticalsolutionwonhimthesupportoftwoleadingsurgeonsandhelpedhimraisethemoneytodevelophisidea.InMay2023,attheageof47,hebecamethesubjectforhisowninvention,theExoVascPersonalisedExternalAorticRootSupport(PEARS).Theoperationwasasuccess.IthassincebeenusedbysurgeonsintheUnitedKingdom,Ireland,Belgium,CzechRepublic,NewZealand,Australia,andtheNetherlands.

Thestudyfoundthatchildrenwithagrowthmind-setweremorelikelytohavealargerbrainresponseaftermakingamistake,comparedwithchildrenwhohadafixedmind-set.Thissuggestedthatchildrenwithagrowthmind-setwerepayingmoreattentiontotheirmistakes,theresearcherssaid.What’smore,childrenwithsuchamind-setweremorelikelytoimprovetheiraccuracyonthetaskaftertheymadeamistake,comparedwithchildrenwhohadafixedmind-set,thestudyshowed.
