ThingsbecameverydifficultforGomayaafterthat.Hecouldnolongersnatch4foodfromtheotherjackals.Theyallattackedhimtogetherandchasedhimaway.Theywouldnotevenallowhimtohuntinthatpartoftheforestanymore.
Gomayawanderedfarawayintoanotherpartoftheforest.Atlasthecametothefarthestpartoftheforest.Bynow,hehadnoteatenformanydays.Hewasfeelingveryweakandtired.“IhavetofindsomefoodsoonorelseIwilldie,hethought.Ashewanderedaround,hecametoanabandonedbattlefield.

Well,ithappenedonedaythatthesetwo,whenoutforaneveningstroll,metunderacherrytree,andinonemomentfellmadlyinlovewitheachother.Gonhadlongfeltthatitwastimeforhimtofindawife,foralltheladiesintheneighbourhoodpaidhimsomuchattentionthatitmadehimquiteshy.Buthewasnoteasytoplease,anddidnotcareaboutanyofthem.Now,beforehehadtimetothink,Cupidhadentangledhiminhisnet,andhewasfilledwithlovetowardsKoma.Shefullyreturnedhispassion,but,likeawoman,shesawthedifficultiesintheway,andconsultedsadlywithGonastothemeansofovercomingthem.GonentreatedhismastertosetmattersrightbybuyingKoma,buthermistresswouldnotpartfromher.ThenthemusicmasterwasaskedtosellGontothelady,buthedeclinedtolistentoanysuchsuggestion,soeverythingremainedasbefore.
Atlengththeloveofthecouplegrewtosuchapitchthattheydeterminedtopleasethemselves,andtoseektheirfortunestogether.Soonemoonlitnighttheystoleaway,andventuredoutintoanunknownworld.Alldaylongtheymarchedbravelyonthroughthesunshine,untiltheyhadlefttheirhomesfarbehindthem.Towardseveningtheyfoundthemselvesinalargepark.Thewanderersbythistimewereveryhotandtired,andthegrasslookedverysoftandinviting,Thetreescastcooldeepshadows,whensuddenlyanogreappearedinthisparadise,intheshapeofabig,bigdog!Hecamespringingtowardsthemshowingallhisteeth.Komashrieked,andrushedupacherrytree.Gon,however,stoodhisgroundboldly,andpreparedtogivebattle–forhefeltthatKoma’seyeswereuponhim,andthathemustnotrunaway.
Alas!Hiscouragewouldhaveavailedhimnothinghadhisenemyoncetouchedhim,forhewaslargeandpowerful,andveryfierce.Fromherperchinthetree,Komasawitall,andscreamedwithallhermight,hopingthatsomeonewouldhearandcometohelp.Luckilyaservantoftheprincesstowhomtheparkbelongedtowaswalkingby.Hedroveoffthedog,andpickingupthetremblingGoninhisarms,carriedhimtohismistress.
SopoorlittleKomawasleftalone,whileGonwasborneaway,fulloftrouble,andnotintheleastknowingwhattodo.Eventheattentionpaidhimbytheprincess,whowasdelightedwithhisbeautyandprettyways,didnotconsolehim.Therewasnouseinfightingagainstfate,andhecouldonlywaitandseewhatwouldturnup.
