Cerenowastodoandsayifanystrangercameonboard.Heheldadaggerinhishand,sayingitwouldalwaysbereadyforanyemergency.TheAmericanvesselwasalargetradeshipandsealhunter,commandedbyCaptainAmasaDelano.HehadstoppedatSantaMariaforwater.OntheAmericanship,shortlyaftersunrise,anofficerwokeCaptainDelano,andtoldhimastrangesailwascomingintothebay.Thecaptainquicklygotup,dressedandwentupondeck.CaptainDelanoraisedhisspyglassandlookedcloselyatthestrangeshipcomingslowlyin.Hewassurprisedthattherewasnoflag.Ashipusuallyshoweditsflagwhenenteringaharborwhereanothershiplayatanchor.Astheshipgotcloser,CaptainDelanosawitwas
