备)tohelpsavethelivesofwoundedsoldiers.IrenecontinuedtheworkbydevelopingX-rayfacilities
inmilitaryhospitalsinFranceandBelgium.HerserviceswererecognizedintheformofaMilitary's
MedalbytheFrenchgovernment.
In1918,Irenebecamehermother?sassistantattheCurieInstitute.InDecember1924,Frederic
JoiiotjoinedtheInstitute,andIrenetaughthimthetechniquesrequiredforhiswork.Theysoonfell
inloveandweremarriedin1926.TheirdaughterHelenewasbornin1927andtheirsonPierrefive
yearslater.
