water.AllwerekeptincontinuoussolitaryconfinementfortheirC.I.A.detention,

rangingfrom16monthstomorethanfouryears.Medicalpersonnelseemtohavebeen

involvedmostlyasfacilitatorsratherthantorturersorinterrogators.Inonecase,they

monitoredadetainee'soxygensaturationwithadeviceattachedtohisfingerso

waterboardingcouldbestoppedbeforetheprisonersuffocated.Inanothercase,an

amputeeforcedtostandwithhisarmsshackledoverheadhadhisintactlegcheckeddaily

forsignsofdangerousswelling.Severaldetaineessaidhealthworkerssometimes

instructedinterrogatorstocontinue,adjustorstopparticularmethodsofabuse.Such

activitiesviolatetheethicalcodesofmajorhealthorganizations,bothnationaland
