This course will cover Euclidean Geometry. Algebra concepts are extended and used throughout the course as a tool to develop the Geometry. Proof in mathematics is studied based on postulates and definitions as applied to various plane or solid figures. The student should expect to spend 15-60 minutes per day on preparation beyond class time. The preparation time depends upon the students aptitude and background in math. Be seated and ready when the bell rings.2. Show respect to classmates, teacher, and yourself at all times.3. Bring math binder, math book, calculator, and pencils every day.4. Please keep all food and drink (including water) outside of the classroom.5. Cell Phones, I-Pods, MP3s, and other electronic devices (except Calculators) are prohibited.6. Follow all school rules listed in your student handbook.Consequences: 1. Warning. (Electronic Device will be collected & turned into the office.)2. Parent notified (Phone or Email) /or Detention.3. An additional detention will be assigned.4. Sent to office.Attendance:Attendance is taken daily. Your attendance is important so come every day. You are responsible for turning in any assignment that was due the day you were absent. You are also responsible for getting, completing, and turning in any assignment that was given during your absence.Hall Passes:Due to the limited amount time that we have together in class, you are limited to 1 hall pass per month. I encourage you to only use the pass in emergency type situations so that you do not miss any critical material that is presented in class.Grading:1. Opportunities To Learn (OTL) a.k.a. Practice or Homework:3-50 Points EachYou will be given Opportunities to Learn daily. This Opportunity could be a book assignment, a worksheet, an extended question, a short answer question, or a challenging application problem. Due to time constraints, we will go over some (not all) of your questions in class. I encourage you to work together, with a family member, or with me outside of class to get all your questions answered. I will collect or check almost every assignment and grade them based on completion or spot grade them and randomly choose 5-6 even problems to grade. Late Practice: Any assignment not turned in on the day that it is collected is considered late. (Except for school approved absences.) Late assignments will be accepted on most assignments but will only receive of the credit and will only be accepted up through the following Friday from the day it was collected. 2. In Class Quick Checks:3-6 Points EachAfter each lesson, students will need to answer 3-4 problems that pertain to the current lesson and 2-3 problems from previous lessons.3. Labs, Projects, Review Packets, and Activities:5-75 Points EachLabs, Projects, Review Packets, and Activities are additional learning activities that will help you explore or reinforce Algebra 1 concepts.4. Quizzes: 5-30 Points Each Quizzes will be given frequently, so anticipate one almost every section or two. Pop quizzes will be given when I believe that you are not taking the assignments seriously.5. Book Cover and Calculator Checks: 10 Points EachYou must have a book cover on your book at all times especially since the books are relatively new. You are also required to have a scientific or graphing calculator. I will do 1 check each semester. 6. Notebook: 50 Points EachEach person is required to have a 3-ring binder, preferably hard-bound. There is one included in your school fees. This notebook will be used to hold all math assignments, notes, worksheets, etc.7. Tests:100 Points EachThese are designed to test concept understanding as well as problem solving. 1. If you miss the day before a test then you are expected to take the test on the day given. 2. If you miss the day of the test (excused absences only) then you must make up the test within 2 school days upon your return.8. Question/Answer or Problem Demonstration Session:15 Points EachYou will need to come in before school, 2nd Lunch, during my 7th period prep, after school, or use my email and ask a question that relates to the mathematics material that we are currently covering or has been covered. You are also allowed to request a problem in which you will demonstrate your understanding. You are required to do this a minimum of 2 times the first quarter.Only 1 time each in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th quarter.
