摘要： 红楼梦诗词翻译中颜色词的意象再造 美国语言人类学家加利帕尔默( g a r yb p a l m e 0 于1 9 9 6 年出版了专著 文化语言学构建。他把人类语言学研究中的三大传统：博厄斯派语言学， 民族语义学和会话民俗学与认知语言学结合起来形成了新的理论，即文化语 言学理论。他认为虽然人类语言学中三大传统的研究方法不同，但是他们都 认同语言相对论，而且他们研究的重点都在意义上，所以把他们与近年来新 兴的认知语言学结合起来，形成一种新的合成理论，互相借鉴，取长补短， 就可以更合理的解释人类学家在文化研究中遇到的诸多语言现象。帕尔默提 出的文化语言学理论进一步发展和丰富了语言人类学和语言与文化研究。 帕尔默在文化语言学理论的阐述中特别提出了意象的概念。帕尔默指 出，一直以来，意象的问题很少被人类学家关注，语言研究重视形式而忽略 意义。因此，他把意象作为文化语言学的核心概念。他认为意象为窗口，可 以窥视各个民族语言使用者的内心世界和思维模式。 中国古典诗歌是中国文化的精髓，而意象又是古典诗歌的灵魂。意象 就是我们脑海里呈现出来的各种图像，它包括视觉，听觉，嗅觉和触觉。诗 歌翻译的过程就是译者意象再造的过程。译者既是原始的读者，又是以译入 语进行创作的作者。 古典诗歌在中国优秀的古典名著红楼梦中占据着重要的位置。红 楼梦是中国古典小说发展的最高峰，由于它涉及当时社会的各个方面，有人 称它为中国封建社会的缩影。它的语言艺术成就更代表了我国古典小说语言 艺术的高峰，小说里的诗词曲赋不仅与小说的叙事融为一体，还服务于人物性 格的塑造。2 0 世纪7 0 年代以来，红楼梦有了两个英文全译本，分别由英 国著名汉学家大卫霍克思和我国著名翻译家杨宪益先生及其夫人译出。其 中在诗词曲赋的意象再造上，他们的处理方法可以说是各有千秋。 迄今为止，研究红楼梦诗词曲赋翻译的文章可以说多之又多，但是 纵观以往，有关红楼梦诗词曲赋中颜色词意象再造的研究却并不多。语 言是文化的载体与映射，而颜色词是语言中的一部分。英语和汉语都有丰富 的基本颜色词，由于不同的社会、历史、地理等原因，英语和汉语的许多基 本颜色词都反映了各自民族的文化特点。本文就是从帕尔默文化语言学中的 意象概念入手，分析和比较了红楼梦两个英译本诗词曲赋中颜色词的意 i v 象再造，对意象翻译进行了探讨。本文提出了意象再造是一个复杂的过程， 译者要有跨文化的意识，同时认识和熟知两国文化和民族意识和联想，不仅 要力求传递出原作意象效果，而且要照顾到译文读者的感受和理解。在意象 再造的过程中，译者还耍灵活地运用各种翻译方法和策略，把握好局部与整 体的关系。
