国内外学术界对于阳纳西威廉斯的研究多关注其独特的“诗化现实主义” 创作手法，通过探讨其剧作中象征主义和表现主义相互交融的创作风格，揭示 接受南方传统文化与价值观教育的一系列女性人物在工业化社会中生存的艰难 与痛苦。本文则系统分析了威廉斯三部代表作品中所反映的女性观，旨在从女 性主义的视角揭示女性悲剧与男权文化不可割裂的关系。 一般认为，威廉斯的三部代表作品玻璃动物园、欲望号街车及热 铁皮屋顶上的猫中的女性人物都是不完美的，她们挣扎在现实与虚幻之间， 是典型的弱者和牺牲品。本文通过深入解读，发现这几部作品中的女主人公对 男性社会为其规定的角色表现出不同程度的不满、觉醒及抗争，是在男权社会 中不甘凌辱的女性形象。在刻画这些女性人物时，威廉斯摆脱了西方传统文化 中狭隘的男性观念的局限，塑造了艰难而自尊地生活在男权夹缝中的威廉斯式 的妇女形象。 本文所研究的三位女性人物是威廉斯式的妇女形象的典型代表，她们展现 了女性成长的不同阶段。其中，阿曼达试图寻找“掩映在虚幻之下的现实世界”， 布兰奇努力维持着自尊和对爱情的追求，而麦琪则愈加具有独立人格，渴望成 为婚姻和经济大权的主宰。但由于男权社会根深蒂固的本质她们的抗争与追 求均以失败而告终。 本文归纳了三部作品中女主人公失败的原因。由于男权社会所固有的社会 环境特征、传统意识、家庭关系及她们个人长期生活在这一社会中养成的性格 缺陷，抗争的结果是她们或陷于迷茫，或不得不向男权社会傲出让步，或成为 男权的牺牲品。尽管如此，她们的抗争及其心中所萌发的现代女性的独立精神 和主体意识为女性审视自身提供了蓝本。 本文所选择的三部作品代表了田纳西威廉斯的主要文学成就。值得注意 的是，尽管田纳西威廉斯与尤余奥尼尔同为二十世纪美国伟大的剧作家，
