摘要 本文分析的文本儿子与情人是戴维赫伯特劳伦斯的第三部 小说，也是他的第一部成名作品。这部小说被誉为英语小说中的拓荒之 作，并已成为被最广泛阅读的英语小说之一。大多数批评家都采用心理 批评或社会分析的方法阐释儿子与情人，不是着力捕捉俄狄浦斯情结 就是局限于社会内容的分析。本文试图通过聚焦于文本中显得微不足道 的人物瓦尔特莫雷尔及其沉默处境，弥补现有研究中形式与内容分离 的现象。 根据叙事学理论，叙述文本可以分为故事和话语两个层面。故事指 被叙述的内容，而话语指对此内容的叙述方式。在叙事文本二分法的启 发下，笔者将区分瓦尔特莫雷尔在两个不同层面上的沉默处境故 事层上的沉默和叙事话语层上的沉默。 从故事层上说，瓦尔特莫雷尔显然是一个被囚锁于沉默牢笼的人 物。瓦尔特莫雷尔虽是一家之主，为人夫，为人父，却受到全部家人 的怠慢。他持续地遭到以妻子格特鲁德莫雷尔为首的所有家人的沉默
