剧，指出其性格的双重性导致了他的悲剧命运，同时，他的悲剧命运也决定了海斯特 白兰的悲剧命运；接着，本文从历史的角度论述了红字中悲剧的历史原因，揭 示了亚瑟与海斯特的象征意义及其悲剧的历史必然性；最后本文从霍桑本人清教思想 的矛盾性和陪伴霍桑本人的一生的信仰危机来论述红字悲剧性的终极根源，进而 得出结论：霍桑自身敏感多思的性格、生活经历，加上其特殊的家族背景，导致了他
