The Rebel Angles aided to set the snake in control of other fellow angels.He trusted to have equald the most High, 40 If he opposd; and with ambitious aimAgainst the Throne and Monarchy of GodHe believed he is as powerful as God and he was ambitious to claim war against the rule of God.Raisd impious War in Heavn and Battel proudWith vain attempt. Him the Almighty PowerHe raised the disrespectful war and battle with pride in Heaven but in vain.Hurld headlong flaming from th Ethereal SkieHe was thrown from the high sky with his head down towards the earth and all the body flaming by the god.With hideous ruine and combustion downTo bottomless perdition, there to dwellIn Adamantine1 Chains and penal Fire,Who durst defie th Omnipotent to Arms.He was burning and falling down to infinite damage and frightful ruin. There were unbreakable chains and fire for punishing who dares to defy the God.Nine times the Space2 that measures Day and Night 50 To mortal men, he with his horrid crewLay vanquisht, rowling in the fiery GulfeConfounded3 though immortal: But his doom4To ordinary people, the punishment lasts for nine days and nights. He and his evil followers lay defeated and rolling in the chaos and abyss like fire. Although he was immortal, he was utterly defeated and ruined.Reservd5 him to more wrath; for now the thoughtBoth of lost happiness6 and lasting pain7 55 Torments him; round he throws his baleful8 eyesBut the destined sufferings put him in extreme anger. Satans happy life in heaven now lost forever and the pain in hell which Satan must suffer last forever and tortures him; then he looks around with his evil and suffering eyes.That witnessd huge affliction and dismayMixt with obdurate pride and stedfast hate:He saw a lot of suffering and dismay and only felt stubborn pride and hatefulness.At once9 as far as Angels kenn10 he viewsThe dismal Situation waste and wilde, 60 A Dungeon horrible, on all sides roundAs one great Furnace flamd, yet from those flamesRight at that moment as far as he could see like angels, the miserable wild and wasteful situation and horrible dungeon are surrounded by burning furnace. No light, but rather darkness visibleServd onely to discover sights of woe,Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace 65 And rest can never dwell, hope never comesThat comes to all11; but torture without endBut theres no light from those frames, so he can only see darkness which only served to make you discover how sorrowful/ pitiful you are and that the hell consists of sorrow and gloomy shadows where peace never lives in this place. The darkness makes you discover that hope that comes to all never comes to the fallen angels.Still urges12, and a fiery Deluge, fedWith ever-burning Sulphur unconsumd:13However, endless torture presses on forever and the blood of fire comes provided with Sulphur burning forever. Such place Eternal Justice had prepard14 70 For those rebellious, here thir15 Prison ordaindIn utter darkness, and thir portion setEternal Justice (God) had prepared such place (the Hell) for those rebellious angels. The fallen angels prison is destined in complete darkness.As far removd from God and light of HeavnAs from the Center16 thrice to th utmost Pole.1Their position was set far away from God and the light of Heaven which is two times further than the distance from Earth to Heaven.O how unlike the place from whence they fell! 75 How different the place (the Hell) is from where they fell!There the companions of
