To protect water is to protect life!Aims:1. Aims of knowledgeEnable students grasp some phrases and sentences about water pollution and how to protect water. Important and difficult points:Some phrases and sentences about water pollution and how to protect water. Teaching strategy: Students-centered teaching method. Learning strategy: Discussion Role playingAids:Multi- media, tape recorder, etc.Teaching procedure: Step 1: lead-in The teacher shows a picture of No.23 Junior Middle School and introduces the beautiful surroundings. Picture A Teacher: Look! (Point at Picture A )This is our school- No.23 Junior Middle School. It stands at the foot of Mount tortoise, near the famous Changjiang Bridge. In front of it is Changjiang River and Lotus Lake is behind it. The water is clean, the air is clear and the mountain is green. Its a beautiful school, isnt it? Students: Yes, it is. Picture B Picture C Teacher: But look at Picture B, it was Lotus Lake 10 years ago. Litter was on the lake. And look at Picture C, it was Changjiang River 10 years ago. Much more litter was on the river. The water was polluted seriously. Hundreds of dead fish were found on the surface of the lake because of serious pollution. Do you think the polluted water is harmful for us? Why? Step 2: Discussion Task 1: Discussion for the harmfulness of the polluted water.Give students some minutes to discuss if the polluted water is harmful for us? Why? The following sentences can help students:1: The dirty water may kill fish.2: People can get sick when they drink the dirty water.3: The dirty water is not good for the plants. Make students show their opinions to the whole class. Task 2: Discussion for the importance of water.Teacher: We know the polluted water is harmful for our health. Water is important for human beings, isnt it? Students: Yes, it is. Teacher: Can you tell me why water is important for human beings? Give students some minutes to discuss the problem.Students may answer the question like these:S1: We must drink water everyday. S2: At home, we use water to wash clothes, to wash dishes, to cook rice, to clean the flat, to have showers, to make drinks, to clean our teeth, to have a bath and so on.S3: At work, people use water to put out fires, to grow vegetables, to make things in factories and so on. We also can swim in the sea.S4: Water is not much in the world. And the ocean water cant be drink. So please save water. Task 3: Discussion for the way of protecting water.Teacher: Water is everywhere around us. We cant live without water. We must protect and save water. But what should we do to protect water? Give students some minutes to discuss the problem. Make students discuss it in groups. At last let one student of each group reports their points of view.Example: First we must switch off the tap when we brush our teeth. Second we mustnt waste water when we dont wash our hands. Third we do not throw waste things into lake or river. At last we should plant some trees to protect water.Step 3: WritingTask 4: Reporting:Teacher: We have known the importance of water, the harmfulness of the polluted water and the way of protecting water.(show two pictures of Lotus Lake and Changjiang River now.)
