(10分) (2019内江) 阅读理解 Students in Kenya are returning for their third term. They begin their school year in January and it is broken up into three terms. In Kenya, in the past, students were not required to attend school and the education was not free, either.I taught math, English and physics at Chamasiri Secondary School while I was a teacher in Kenya. This school had four classrooms one for each grade, Form 1, Form 2, Form 3 and Form 4. They are the equivalent(对等) to our 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Teachers traveled from classroom to classroom instead of the students going from room to room. The Form I class had 60 students, Form 2 had 45, Form 3 had 30, and Form 4 about 12 students. The class sizes became smaller as the grades continued on. Why did this happn? Many families were very poor and could not afford the school fees(学费).Most countryside schools in Kenya did not have a lot of money. As a result, there were very few textbooks for the students to use. I had seven math texts for my Form 2 class and 14 for the Form I class. Anything the students needed to know was put up on the blackboard and the students copied it down into their notebooks. The notebooks became the students textbooks.Kenyan students study ten different subject areas. Some of the students spend over an hour running home. They do chores at home and hopefully manage to find some time to study before it gets dark. Most families do not have electricity and may not even have candies for their children to study by.Luckily, Kenyan education has been becoming better and better in the past few years. Im sure it will have a good future.(1) Which grade does Form 3 refer to(指的是) in the writers country? A . Grade 9.B . Grade 10.C . Grade 11.D . Grade 12.(2) Why did the notebooks become the students textbooks? A . The students did not pay the schools.B . The schools couldnt afford the textbooks.C . The students preferred to use their notebook.D . The teachers asked the students to take notes.(3) Why do some students run home from school? A . They arent allowed to stay at school.B . They dont like studying in the school.C . They hope to have more time to study.D . They want to get candles in the stores.(4) According to the passage, which of the following is NOT TRUE? A . In Kenya, a school year has three terms.B . The Form I class had the most students.C . Each family has electricity in Kenya.D . Kenyan education has been improving.10. (8分) (2019九上杭州月考) 阅读理解 Being shy keeps many Chinese people from getting to know Westerners. You may feel nervous about making language mistakes in front of a native English speaker. But remember, Westerners living in Asia know how it feels when trying to communicate in a foreign language. They make many mistakes when speaking Chinese! So dont worry about speaking imperfect English. The most important thing is just to communicate. Start talking, and make some foreign friends! Many Westerners value their privacy(隐私). Dont be surprised if your new friend doesnt want to include you in everything he does. This may seem strange to Chinese who worry that their friends will feel lonely.Chinese people often expect their good friends to give advice to and take care of them in many ways. If you expect this kind of care from Westerners, you may be disappointed. Why? Because most Westerners value independence. They feel insulted(受侮辱的) if others think they cant take care of themselves. They will assume(假设) you feel in the same way.Of course, these tips are just rules of thumb(经验之谈)and may not apply to all Westerners. Each person you meet has his or her own ideas about friendship. When you get confused, dont be shy to ask questions. Your new Western friends may also have many questions about Chinese culture , and they may be hesitant(迟疑的) to ask. So encourage them to ask questions, too.Be honest and open to your friends. Respect each others differences. The friendship you develop can be lifelong treasure both for you and your new friend.(1) Why do many Chinese people feel worried to speak to foreigners according to this passage? A . Because they are clever enough.B . Because they are afraid of making a lot of language mistakes.C . Because they have nothing to say.D . Because they cant speak a foreign language.(2) What is the most important thing for speaking perfect English? A . Watching TV.B . Meeting foreigners.C . Communicating.D . Studying English.(3) What do you think the foreigners may NOT be insulted by? A . Being given advice.B . Taking care of themselves.C . Getting care from good friends.D . Getting help.(4) What may help you to make lifelong friends? A . Being honest.B . Being open to your friends.C . Respecting others.D . A, B and C11. (6分) 阅读理解Hello! Im Bill Smith. Im twelve. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are. The longer sleep you need. But regardless of(不管)age, some people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough. The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough.According to the World Health Organization over half the people in the world may be sleep-deprived. Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100,000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure(血压).Why are so many people sleep-deprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, people who sleep a lot are usually seen as lazy. Also, you can sometimes hear some people say proudly that they dont have much time to sleep. They only sleep four or five hours a night. It seems that the less you sleep, the more work youll do.How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr. James Maas. an expert(专家) in sleep. He says, Sleep is like a credit (信用卡) card. When you sleep less. You are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The more hours you dont sleep, the more hours you should t sleep to pay back the hours on your sleep credit card. For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said. Dont think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish(愚蠢的) idea which is held by people who have no imagination. If you do not expect to win, you will not try as hard as those who do expect to win. You also need to have a clear aim and a reason for doing something because motivation (动力) is a key to achieving success.Another quality that helps people succeed is creativity-thinking about things in a different way and wondering how others would do the same thing.
