Greys Anatomy Season 10 17 Do You Know?Greys Anatomy Episode ScriptsSeason 1010x17: Do You Know?Original Airdate: 3/28/2014Written by: Shonda RhimesDirected by: Chandra WilsonCristina VO: Do you know who you are? Do you know whats happened to you? Do you want to live this way?Shane: Theres a hole in the pericardium. Thats the source of all this blood? Cristina: No, thats whats keeping him alive. Well, hello.Cristina VO: All it takes is one person, one patient, one moment, to change your life forever.Cristina: Ross, I would like to introduce you to the black mamba.Cristina VO: It can change your perspective, color your thinking.Shane: Um isnt that the IVC? Cristina: The single trickiest vessel in the entire human body delicate, unpredictable. Hear that? The gurgling? Thats its song. See that? Look how it twitches. One wrong move, one misstep, and this patient is dead. You cant repair that mamba without moving with the mamba. Some people say its impossible to repair.Cristina VO: One moment that forces you to re-evaluate everything you think you know.Cristina: Come on, mamba. Lets dance.Derek: You paged? Shane: MVC victim. Wanted you to take a look at the C-spine X-rays.Derek: Oh, damn. Poor guy. Cristina: Oh. Hey. I just nailed the mamba.Cristina VO: Do you know who you are?Derek: The patients C3 and 4 are obliterated. His spinal cord is severed.Theres no way I can repair that.Cristina VO: Do you know whats happened to you? Shane: But we just fixed his heart.Cristina: Against all odds. Cause Im awesome.Derek: Yeah, well, even so, hes lost all motor function from the neck down. The mans paralyzed.Cristina VO: Do you want to live this way?Elise: Wait. What? Cristina: Unfortunately, the impact of the crash severed his spinal cord at C3, which is quite high in the neck.Elise: Yeah, no, Im a nurse. I-I know what C3 is. So youre saying hes paralyzed.Cristina: Yes. I am so sorry. But his brain function is good, and I was able to fully repair his heart.Elise: Uh, is his diaphragm working? Can he breathe on his own? Cristina: No, hes currently on a ventilator. There are options from here, once hes had time to recover Uh, surgery to fuse his spine so he can sit up. We can, uh, insert a-a permanent trach. These are all options we can discuss.Elise: Will he ever breathe on his own again? Cristina: No. He will not.Elise: Okay, um I need you to wake him up right now. You can do that, right? Cristina: Elise, your husband just underwent major surgery.Elise: I know, and now Im asking you to wake him up. And I need you to ask him if he wants you to remove the vent.Cristina: Well, the vent is breathing for him. Its-its whats keeping him alive.Elise: I was gonna surprise him tonight. As an early anniversary gift, I got us playoff tickets. I mean, nosebleed seats, but we kind of love it up there. Its like, pretzels and hot dogs for dinner. I mean, its fun. The last thing I thought when I woke up this morning was Id lose Jason. I understand what Im asking. Believe me, I dont want to lose him. But I know him. I know everything about him. I understand how he thinks. I get his humor. I could predict what hes gonna order in a restaurant. And I just I dont think he would want this. I know it. I think he would rather die than live one more minute hooked up to a machine.Cristina: Its your husbands right to decline treatment, if thats what he wants.Uh, itll-itll take some time to fully wean him off the sedation, but Ill let you know when he starts to wake.Elise: Thank you.Alex: I think she really means it.Meredith: And that bugs you? No. I mean, maybe. I dont know. Its just I dont know. Its not like I want to get married tomorrow, but never? Meredith: But youre with her. I-if you love her, who cares if shes not the marrying kind? I wasnt.Alex: Yeah, but then you did.Meredith: Right, but some people dont.Alex: So, what we just keep doing what were doing for the next 20 years, and thats it? Meredith: But if youre together, what does it matter? Hey!Alex: Hey.Meredith: Didnt see you there. You okay? Cristina: Yep.Cristina: Jason? My name is Dr. Yang. I know you must be very confused right now, but I need to ask you some questions, okay? Theres a tube down your throat, so you cant speak, but you should be able to nod yes or no. Think you can do that for me?Jason: yes.Cristina: Thats great. Okay. Lets get started.Cristina: Do you know who you are?Jason: yes.Cristina: Do you know where you are? Do you know what has happened to you? Jason: No.Cristina: You were in a car accident. Your vehicle was hit from behind, and you flipped over into oncoming traffic. Youre in a hospital right now.Jason: yes.Cristina: Do you know who this is? Jason: yes.Cristina: Your spine was crushed in the accident, and you are paralyzed from the neck down. Youre currently breathing with the help of a ventilator. Thats the tube in your mouth. Now, I understand it might be your wish for me to remove the vent? Jason: yes.Cristina: I want to make sure you understand what this means. The ventilator is breathing for you. That means, once its removed, you will not be able to breathe on your own. Now, if you cant breathe you will die. It might take a few hours probably less. Do you understand this?Elise: Oh, god.Cristina: Do you still want me to remove the vent? Elise: I love you. And I want you to know, whatever you decide Ill support you. Ill be by your side, no matter what.Cristina: Im sorry, but I have to ask one more time. Jason would you like me to remove the vent? Jason: yes.Cristina VO: Do you know who you are? Do you know whats happened to you? Do you want to live this way? Avery: Ohh! God!Owen: Hey, you.Cristina: What are we doing? What the hell are we doing? Owen: Im waiting for an elevator?Cristina: I just spent my day saving the life of a man whos now choosing to die, and all I keep thinking is You and I are throwing so much away. We should be together. Youre the love of my life, and it is stupid just stupid for us to keep pretending. I love you. I want to be with you for real, forever. Its as simple as that.Cristina: Thats it. Weve christened every room in this house.Owen: Yeah. And its a pretty big house.Cristina: Mm-hmm.Owen: I thought I wasnt gonna make it through the guest room.Cristina: Yeah, but you rallied at the end. Mm-hmm.Owen: Mm-hmm, I did. You know, the house feels big for just two of us. Dont you think? Owen: Ah. He is gorgeous.Cristina: No.Owen: Oh. Okay. Um this one.Cristina: I agreed to a dog, not a horse.Owen: Thats a mid-size dog.Cristina: No, that is huge. You know what a big dog makes?Owen: What? Cristina: Big poop. That thing could crap my entire body weight in a day.Owen: Hmm. That is a beautiful image. Thank you.Cristina: That one.Owen: What? Cristina: Thats the one.Owen: No. No. That is not even a dog. That is a rodent, and it looks mean.Cristina: Hey, uh, we want this thing in here. Can someone get it out? Cristina: Conduit, please.Shane: Fresh off the printer.Alex: Kids tiny for 12 months.Cristina: Hell grow when his hearts sending a little more blood around the system.Shane: The first couple kids we put conduits in, you can already see the difference in only a year.Owen: Hey, so, I have an emergency surgery. Im gonna be in the O.R.for the next nine hours.Cristina: Okay.Owen: Mrs.Rodriguez!Cristina: Oh, no. This is gonna take me at least three hours.Owen: Well, Mrs. Rodriguez is not gonna make it.Shane: Is she a cardio patient? I could have somebody page you a consult.Cristina: Mrs. Rodriguez will last until I finish here, and then Ill go. Ross, youll close for me?Shane: Yeah.Owen: Are you sure? Cristina: Well, this is why I said we should keep the damn dog in the kitchen when were gone.Owen: I am not locking the dog in the kitchen.Cristina: Well, then you can clean up the puddle on the rug when you get home.Ill leave it for you! Alex: You got a dog?Cristina: Yes.Alex: Things gonna be dead in a week.Shane: Wait. You named your dog Mrs. Rodriguez? Cristina: When you meet him, youll understand.Alex: Meet him soon before he dies.Cristina: What? Im a physician! Its not like Im gonna have trouble keeping an animal alive.Alex: Uh-huh. Give 5-0 prolene, please.Cristina: What? You think I cant keep a dog alive? Alex: Whatever. Dont worry about it.Cristina: Hes perfectly healthy. Alex, its not funny.Meredith: I cant believe youre gonna dress the dog in my sons sweater.Cristina: Mrs. Rodriguez gets cold. He doesnt have the constitution for all this damp and rain. He gets the shakes.Cristina: What? Meredith: You like the dog! Cristina: Hes an unusual dog. Its not like Im becoming someone who likes dogs. He just happens to relate to people like I do. Uh-huh. Its true. I mean, he doesnt want to talk about his feelings or the future. If I walk him and feed him on a regular schedule, hell curl up next to me on the couch, and if I dont, hell bite my ankles. Its a set of behaviors that makes sense to me.Meredith: You like the dog. The dog gets you. Youre alike. Thats how I talk about my children. You have a baby. Cristina: Oh! Meredith: A dog baby.Cristina: Mrs. Rodriguez!Derek: Im sorry. I know how painful it is. Ive been through it myself, but its been over two years since the injury, and at some point, you just have to say enough is enough.Avery: What? No. Y-you have no idea where Callie: Hey, look, your hand needs more time, all right? Just give your hand rest, throw yourself into the rehab.Avery: Ive done the rehab! Its been two years! Its done, okay? Im good enough to operate. I mean, what is this? Is this about Mr. Willenstein? That was a routine.Derek: The decision has been made. You can keep your administrative duties, but you are not cleared to operate. Youre not going back in the O.R. Any other business before we adjourn? Owen: Actually, uh yes, there is.Cristina: You had to bring it up to the board! Owen: Yeah. It was time.Cristina: It absolutely was not time. We didnt make the decision yet. Well, clearly, Im wrong, cause we did. I just wasnt part of it.Owen: Listen, it is the job of a lifetime. Running the entire military trauma division with Teddy its-its whats next for me, Cristina. I can feel it.Cristina: Yeah in Germany! We have a house! I have my trial! We are good here, Owen. Were happy. We cant just leave everything.Owen: Just listen to me for one second.Cristina: No. No. You want to know what? Youre not backing me into this.Owen: Come on. Nobody backs you into anything. Believe me Ive tried.Cristina: So, you want me to dump my whole trial, just when Im starting to get somewh Owen: That is not what Im sayi please stop. Stop acting like youre some hit-and-run victim. I cant have another conversation where the idea that my career or, in fact, any of my wishes might come first is presented as some crime against humanity! Cristina: Oh, what? So, now were back where we started? I never give you anything, so the terms under which were together are that your dreams die? Owen: Can you quiet the damn dog? You know what? You quiet the damn dog.Cristina: You wanted the dog.Owen: Not that dog! He doesnt even like me. He only likes you.Cristina: Because you make stupid decisions! And he knows it! Im not moving to Germany!Owen: Oh, so, thats it? Conversations over? Cristina: Uh-huh.Owen: Of course it is. I dont know why I ever entertained the idea for one second that we might ever do anything that Id want.Cristina: Shh!Cristina: Coming through!Shane: Dr. Yang! Cristina: Oh, whatever it is, it can wait. My shift is over, and I am going home.Shane: Come on. Patient 11 Jasper ONeil. Hes back for his annual checkup. Apparently, hes learning to play hockey. Cristina: You handle it. Send him my best. But if my conduit gets smashed because they let their kid get body-checked on the ice, Im killing them! Shane: Will do.April: Oh! Hi! Hey, whod have thunk it? You and me were belly buddies.Cristina: No, were not. OB: Its okay. Youre almost there. All you have to do is push.Cristina: No. No can do.OB: We are almost there.Cristina: Hes gonna have to stay up in there. Ive got a cozy womb. Hell be happier. Itll be better for everyone. Oh, my god! Oh, god! Oh, god! Whoa, whoa.Owen: Wait a second. You have to wait a second.Cristina: No, I cant! Owen: You have to wait one second.Cristina: I cant, I cant. Oh, god. This is a mistake. Its a mistake! I cant! I cant! Owen: What?Cristina: This is a mistake, Mer! Meredith: Everyone says that.OB: Here we go. We need one more push.Owen: Okay, now! OB: Push! Push! Push! Great!Cristina: I screwed up, Mer. Mer, I screwed up. I really screwed up.Meredith: Shh.Cristina: I cant Oh Hello. Oh.Cristina: Go back to sleep. I got this.Jo: Okay. Its okay.Nurse: Youre doing good. Youre being so good.Jo: Yeah. Hes fine. Hes fine.Cristina: This is all my fault. You know, I was-I was at the park, and I looked away for a second when Ross texted me. I was-I was standing right there.Owen: Listen, its okay. These things happen. And have you met our son? He lunges headfirst into everything. Its a wonder this never happened sooner.Cristina: Well, we cant go back to that park. They need, like, sand or some of that soft turf stuff. I mean, who puts concrete steps by a play space? Its completely irresponsible.Owen: It is a superficial cut. Hes gonna be fine.Cristina: Im already late for my meeting. I cant just I cant just stick him in daycare, not whenOwen: Slow down. Slow down, okay? Now, were gonna figure this out. And, by the way, daycare has very capable teachers. Oh, please.Cristina: I am capable.Shane: So, your text said make sure the phase 3 patients go. Go to the bathroom? Go away? Oh. Sorry. I didnt realize. Is he okay?Owen: Yes.Cristina: No.Shane: Uh, do you want me to reschedule the phase 3 patient meetings today, maybe try to squeeze them in next week, orCristina: No, just, um Ross, will you take them? You understand the procedure. You know what to do. Just I You know, I want you to take over phase 3 from here.Shane: What? What are you sure?Cristina: Yes. Can you do this for me? Just do this for me, okay?Shane: Of course, if thats what you want.Cristina: I cant believe Baileys already 7. Please tell me he has outgrown that whole I fiddle with my junk 24/7 phase, cause I have to practically duct-tape Theos pants on his body.Meredith: Of all the conversations that you and I have had about boys, I didnt expect this one to be it.Cristina: Hahaha.Meredith: Feel any kicks yet? Cristina: Uh, no, not really.Meredith: Nauseous? Cristina: Oh, just tired. Every day, I go to work and do my job. Then I come home and do that job. Im so tired. Its like Im sleepwalking all the time.Meredith: Well, youre well into your second trimester now, so thatll start getting better.Cristina: Its not the pregnancy.Meredith: Cristina.Cristina: Look how happy he is.Meredith: Youre not dressed? We need to get going. The Harper Avery awards await. Are you nervous? Are you okay? Do you need a minute? Cristina: No. Maybe.Meredith: Okay. But just a minute. And then nerves of steel. Right? Cristina: Right.Meredith: Okay.Cristina: The surgical mind needs to be constantly inspired, always asking the toughest questions. The Harper Avery award is a celebration of that, of the kind of mind I saw in tonights recipient, even when he was just an intern. Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to present to you this years Harper Avery award recipient to Dr. Shane Ross.Shane: Thank you. Thank you. First and foremost, Id like to thank Dr. Yang. I wouldnt be here without your guidance, encouragement, and support. All it takes is one person, one patient to change your life forever. When I first met Jasper ONeil, he was 12 months old, and we didnt think hed make it to 13. Hes here with us tonight. Jasper, would you stand up, please? Meredith: Cristina. Cristina.Cristina VO: Do you know who you are? Do you know whats happened to you? Do you want to live this way?Elise: I love you. And I want you to know that whatever you decide Ill support you. Ill be by your side No matter what.Cristina: Im sorry, but I have to ask one more time. Jason would you like me to remove the vent? Jason: No.Avery: Aah! Owen: Hey, you.Cristina: I just spent my day saving the life of a man who couldve chosen to die but didnt. I repaired a heart that was impossible to repair. I achieved the impossible today, and it feels good. No. More. It feels incredible. What are you doing right now? Owen: Um waiting for the elevator.Cristina: Yeah. Were gonna have to take the stairs, cause I just finished my shift, and I feel like celebrating tonight, naked, with you.Owen: Oh. I could be into that.Cristina: Are you sure youre okay with this?Owen: Oh, yeah, yeah. Im very sure.Cristina: No, no. No, not-not this. Us, being just us.Owen: I know. And Im good. I am.Cristina: You said you were okay. You told me.Owen: Yeah, I know.Cristina: You told me that.Owen: I thought I was, okay? But I-Im not.Cristina: What does that.Avery: I just need my films. Not right this second, though.Owen: Listen, all I am asking is that we just reopen this conversationCristina: No. No! There is nothing left to talk about. Owen, I was clear about this. I was so clear. I cant give you more than what I am already giving, and if now you need more.Owen: Yes, I think I do! I think I do!Cristina: If now well, then-then get it somewhere else.Owen: Oh. Okay, I will.Cristina: Its-its over. No, this time, Owen and I are really over. I mean, we cant keep falling back into the same pattern. Its just, Mer? You awake?Meredith: Yeah. You and Owen are over again. Im totally listening. Continue.Cristina: Well, see? Thats the point I-It cant continue the way it is. Its-its not good, its not healthy. Cristina: Your hearts healthy enough now that youd be an excellent candidate - for the type of research theyre doing.Elise: Mm-hmm. Could it hurt him? Derek: No. It is a surgery. I would implant an array of wireless sensors into his skull that would transmit electrical activity.Callie: But none of our subjects ever complained of pain.Derek: Its a chance to help us, to help revolutionize treatment. For people like yourself.Elise: Hmm? What do you think, hon?Jason: Itll help people people like me It wont help me? Elise: Honey, wouldnt it be nice to have a place to go instead of sitting around the house all day? Its something, Jason. Its something we can do. Please?Jason: I dont care. Fine.Elise: Um, thank you, Dr. Yang, for thinking of us.Callie: Oh, no, actually, it was chief Hunts idea. He-he told us about Jason.Elise: Oh, well, thank you, Dr. Hunt. Its gonna be great for him.Owen: Well, good luck. What? Cristina: That was a really nice thing you did for them.Owen: Oh, well Im a really nice guy, or so Ive been told.Cristina: I would never ask you for that.Owen: Youre not asking. I am telling you.Cristina: Well I dont believe you.Owen: Cristina, people change. I mean, youre not the same person that you were when we met. I can change, too.Cristina: Really? People who want kids dont just stop wanting them. Dont give up things for me.Owen: Hey, Im not. I havent. Im not giving up anything.Callie: Good. Good. Good. Yeah, slowly but surely.Derek: Just focus on your balance.Elise: How does it feel, Jase, to walk again? Jason: Its pretty good.Derek: Yeah, I think he needs to concentrate.Owen: Its amazing, in just a few years? Elise: Unbelievable. Is Dr. Yang busy? I would love for her to see this.Owen: I can check, okay? Callie: Jason, are you all right? Elise: Jason!Owen: Get a crash cart! Derek: Jason? Owen: Hey, I need you.Cristina: Yes. Uh, no. I cant. Uh, these abstracts were supposed to go out an hour ago. You know what? Okay. On-call room, but fast?Owen: No, no, its not, um its Jason Castor. He just had an accident in the BCI lab. He has rhabdo, renal failure. Grey is putting a shunt in him, but his wifes asking for you. Jason Castor your patient, the quadriplegic? We, uh, put him into Derek and Callies trial. His wife is Cristina: Oh! Right, right, right. Yes. Um Does he need a heart consult? Owen: No, no. Shes just scared, and she trusts you.Cristina: You know, Owen, I-I have to finish this. Ive got seven prints going.Owen: Where-wheres Ross? Cristina: Ross cant do this. Im one step away from funding for animal trials. Owen, hes not my patient anymore. If the guys heart is fine, I dont have time to hold someones hand right now.Owen: You know what? You saved her husbands life. You were the first doctor she met. She likes you, she trusts you, and now shes waiting for you.Cristina: About a million heart patients are waiting for me, too.Owen: Right. You cant let people down.Owen: Hey.Elise: Oh. Thanks. Um, was it because of the suit? Owen: No. His kidneys failed, and that caused him to pass out. But the surgery is going well, and then well get him on dialysis. This is just a complication of Jasons condition.Elise: Its all just complications.Owen: And he should be able to continue with the study, soElise: He wont. Yeah, this-this will be his excuse, and hell never forgive me for making him do it.Owen: What? You didnt make him do this.Elise: He told me once w-we were fighting, and he told me that when we woke him to ask him if he wanted to live, he only said yes because he was looking at me That if it had been up to him if I wasnt there he would have said no. So all this is because of me. I mean, he-hes miserable every day because of me. And I-Im-Im Im-Im not a wife anymore. Im a nursemaid and a cook and an orderly, and I never go home from that work. I am that work. Thats all I am anymore. I wanted to have a child. And I will never, ever have a child. Im sorry.Im being selfish. Im horrible.Owen: No, youre not. No, no, no, no. Not at all. Not at all. I-I totally understand.Elise: Mm Uh Im sorry. Im so sorry. Mnh-mnh.Owen: No. Its okay.Bailey: Get on out! Ha! Okay, now, that is a healthy heart sip thats both delicious and nutritious. Thank you very much for that. Next up, Im going to debunk the top five biggest health myths for you folks, coming up right after this.Cristina: She better include my suggestion on too much calcium increasing your risk of heart disease. People pop those pills like candy. I havent seen you in two days.Owen: Yeah, I took a couple extra night shifts.Cristina: I-I went by the trailer this morning.Owen: Yeah, I just crashed in the on-call room.Cristina: Is something going on? Owen: I need more, Cristina. You know? I just cant keep I just need more, you know more from you, more from us. Another, please?Joe: You got it! Cristina: Okay, lets just get out of here.Owen: Nope.Cristina: Lets go home. Just sleep this off, and lets talk about it in the morning, can weOwen: We dont have a home, Cristina. I have a trailer, and you have a room at Karevs house. Its not - Another, please.Joe: Right up! There you go.Owen: Thank you.Meredith: Oh! Theres too many. The kids outnumber the adults. Shouldve thought of that before we adopted again. I mean, what if theres a mutiny? Derek and I will lose.Cristina: No, not until the third one can walk.Meredith: So, you broke up again? Cristina: Same thing, over and over.Meredith: You know what else is the same? This. You and I laying in this bed, talking about you and Owen. Why do you keep doing this to yourself? Cristina: I need help. Mer, you have to help me. Dont let me go back to him for his good and mine. Please help me.Meredith: Of course. Of course Ill help you.Avery: What do you mean? Its been six months since my last procedure! Owen: Your hands still not healed! You need more P.T. and more time in the skills lab. You are not stepping into that O.R not today, maybe not ever! Avery: All right, first of all, you need to lower your voice.Owen: Oh, okay! So, what, nobody can yell at you? Whys that? Why is that?! Because youre an Avery? Avery: Excuse? That has nothing to do with any of this, and youOwen: Some pampered little rich boy - Who was gifted a hospitalAvery: Oh!Owen: So he thinks that its okay to go ahead and endanger patients, cause hes too damn proud to admit that he cant operate anymore!Bailey: Dr. Hunt! Cristina: Do you know how many infants are born without a pulmonary artery? Stephenie: Cristina, Im so sorry.Cristina: But there is a surgery to correct it. Its called unifocalization, which I was doing with a robot. But now Shane is finishing it because you paged me 911 like a million times. So whatever it is, it better beStephenie: Its Owen. He wanted to work a shift. I didnt feel comfortable. He only agreed to get in a bed if I paged you.Cristina: You came.Cristina: Give us a minute.Cristina: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Oh, god, you stink. You tried to start a shift? Are you insane? You couldve hurt someone.Owen: Yeah. Yeah. I love you.Cristina: This has got to stop.Owen: I love you. I love you. I love you, and, uh I-I see you every day, and I cant have you. So so how am I supposed to keep doing this, keep working here, when every time I turn around I see your face.Cristina: Owen Owen, Owen, Owen, Owen.Owen: I love you. Please. Please. Please marry me. Just marry me.Cristina: Owen.Owen: Why cant you just marry me? Please, Im begging you. Im begging. I am begging you. I mean, we should never have called it quits. We should never have called it quits when we did.Cristina: Shh, shh, shh, shh.Owen: Please. Just Please marry me.Meredith: Well, theres no sign of him yet, but theres still plenty of time, so theres no reason to panic.Cristina: Im not panicked. Can you get my belt? Meredith: Sure. You look beautiful.Cristina: Thanks. He is late. How could he be late to this? Meredith: Ill go look for him again.Owen: Okay, weve got a full house, people. page anyone whos available.Intern:Yes, sir.Owen: Watch your back.Jane:10-year-old female thrown from a vehicle. Multiple blunt injuries and hypotensive.Owen: Hey, you assess her, then rush her up to radiology - get a C.T.with contrast.Intern:Uh-huh.Owen: Then page me as soon asWoman: Um, excuse me. Um, contrast, like the iodine dye?Owen: Yeah.Woman: Im allergic to that. Do you think my daughter could be, too? Owen: Well run a test and check. Not a problem. Excuse me. Whatve you got?
