Emotionalstatesofparticipantswerealsomeasuredbyaskingabouttheirfeelingswhilecompletingthegallerytask.Acrossallparticipants,thoseinthebeautygroupreportedanaverageof23%higherlevelsof"transformativeandself-transcendentfeelings"—suchasfeelingmoved,enlightenedandinspired—thanthecontrolgroup.Importantly,however,thebeautygroupdidnotreportfeelinganyhappierthanthecontrolgroup,suggestingthatitwastheengagementwithbeautythatinfluencedabstractthinking,ratherthananyoverallpositivityfromtheexperience.
