voicesthemselves.Aclearpatternemerged:certainrecordingswereconsistentlyeasiertorememberacross
listeners.Thesamespeakersalsotendedtobesimilarlymemorableinbothexperiments.
Thissuggestedthatmemorabilitymightbelongtothespeaker,andthethirdexperimenttestedtheideamore
directly.There,amixofbothsentenceswasused,requiringlistenerstorecognizethesamespeakeracrossdifferent
sentences.Again,certainspeakerswereeasiertoidentify,strengtheningtheevidenceforspeaker-level
memorability.
Theteamnextaskedwhetherthismemorabilitycouldbepredicted.Softwaremeasuredacoustic(声学的)
features,includingpitch(音高)andspeakingspeed.Theresearchersalsoconsideredaccentandlistenerjudgments
ofpersonality.Modelsbuiltfromthesemeasurespredictedwhichvoicesweremorememorable.Moreimportantly,
amodeltrainedononesentencecouldstillpredictmemorabilitywhenthesamespeakerssaidtheother.The
successfulpredictorswerelow-levelacousticfeatures,thoughnosinglefeatureexplainedtheeffect.
Takentogether,thefindingssuggestthatvoicememorabilityisnotentirelypersonal.Somevoicesseem
consistentlyeasiertoremember,andpartofthatdifferencecanbepredictedfromsounditself.Understandingwhy
couldhelpteachersandlanguage-learningtoolschoosevoicesthatstayinmemory.
