Continuation writing 朱燕燕Teaching aimsAfter leaning this lesson, students will be able to: figure out the main characters feelings in certain situations; find out supporting details to show the feelings; describe feelings of a person in a vivid way.develop a reasonable ending to a story. Teaching procedureStep1: Revision 1. Have students review the story they read in the past New National Entrance Examination.Q1: Do you still remember the story, on which you have to base your writing? Q2: What is it mainly about? Q3: Which ending did you put to the story, a happy ending or a sad ending? 2. Review the plot of the story and figure out Janes feelings in different situations. A quarrel broke out. - angryJane got lost. - surprised, frightened, regretful, confusedJane found a stream and some berries. - joyful, hopefulJane heard a helicopter- hopeful, anxious3. Have students figure out in what aspects the writer writes about the feelings of Jane. (1)“Im going to”, “Tom!” “Help!” (2) Walked away, climbed, turned around, cried, (3 ) Is that for me? she should go to (4) Confused, hungry and thirsty(5)It was daybreak. 4. Draw students attention to the use of grammatical structures and sentence patterns in the passage. Think about the purposes of using them in the writing of the story. Students work together and write the first paragraph according to the given sentences using what they have learnt in this class. 2. Provide students with a sample paragraph. Have students compare the two paragraphs. 3. Students write the second paragraph. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him. Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling (滴落) somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better. Feeling stronger now. Jane began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to the lake. As she picked her way carefully along the stream, Jane heard a helicopter. Is that for me? Unfortunately, the trees made it impossible for people to see her from above. A few minutes later, another helicopter flew overhead.
