Your answerCorrect answerthrough through Part II: Banked ClozeQuestions 31 to 40 are based on the following passage.Last Friday, Lucy and I went to see a science-fiction movie. It was about a(n) (31) group of astronauts flying through space. Why were they so careless? Who knows? The story was (32) and it didnt make sense for one minute. At least, it didnt make sense to me. It seemed like every few minutes there was a(n) (33) and something would blow up for no apparent reason. Youd think that, with so many explosions and so much (34) lying around as a result, the spaceship would have trouble flying. Apparently not. Actually, one of the characters in the movie was (35) worried about this problem, but then something else blew up and distracted him.Honestly, I thought the whole movie was (36); I could barely sit through to the end. It literally left me (37) for breath because I was so confused and frustrated. It seems to be an unfortunate trend that filmmakers have decided to (38) away from solid, meaningful storytelling and instead focus on special effects without a clear story.Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer movies with (39) characters and sensible stories (40), old Hollywood films from the 1940s and 1950s. Ill take Clark Gable or Fred Astaire over these silly special effects extravaganzas any day. Your answerCorrect answer(31) reckless reckless (32) baffling baffling (33) blast blast (34) dreadful debris (35) momentarily momentarily (36) dreadful dreadful (37) gasping gasping (38) shift shift (39) well-defined well-defined (40) namely namely Part III: Reading ComprehensionQuestions 41 to 45 are based on the following passage. When most people think of science fiction, they think of entertaining stories about the future that include lots of technology and situations that seem impossible today. Flying cars, human-like robots, interplanetary travel, time travel, and contact with alien life are all fairly normal for science-fiction stories. For this reason, science fiction is usually regarded as an escape from reality and is generally considered to deal with subjects that are far removed from the real issues with which we deal on Earth in 2010.However, I think this line of thinking misses the entire point of science fiction namely, that these stories portray the potential of humanity under almost any imaginable situation. There have been many stories about astronauts trying to destroy an asteroid that is headed straight for Earth or about scientists planning to colonize another planet because Earths resources are disappearing. Books and movies about these subjects are often seen as escapist entertainment, and nothing more. However, it is very likely that, one day, an asteroid will be headed straight at Earth. It is also a fact that, eventually, humans will use up all of Earths resources. When that happens, we will need to think of an alternative plan for survival. When viewed in this light, these stories dont seem so far-fetched.Another reason that science-fiction stories are seen as far removed from our lives is because of the incredibly advanced technology. Think about it, though. Science-fiction stories have been around since the 19th century. The advanced technology that amazed readers back then has most become realitythings like airplanes, hands-free telephones, and computers. Whos to say that the unbelievable technology in todays stories wont be tomorrows reality?Of course science fiction is still fiction. The stories arent true and they are a wonderful way for people to let their imaginations run wild. However, history has clearly shown that science fiction has a wonderful ability to come true. We just need a bit of patience and let science catch up to science fiction. 41. This style of writing would best be described as _. A. expository B. narrative C. argumentative D. descriptive 42. Which of the following best sums up the authors main point? A. Science fiction is usually regarded as an escape from reality. B. Science-fiction stories have been around since the 19th century. C. Of
