(used in the prepositional phrase) in spite of: taking no notice of, or not prevented by; despite they went out, in spite of the heavy rain. he kept on working hard, in
45、 spite of his poor health. 19. thank god! mr. smith cried out, and quickly left the table. meaning: thank god! mr. smith shouted in fear and surprise, and quickly went away from the table.cry out: shout (something) loudly; express pain, surprise, etc. the dying man cried out his mothers name. the wo
46、unded soldier cried out in pain. reading skill: predicting before you read a text in detail, it is possible to predict what information you may find in it. you will probably have some knowledge of the subject already, and you can use this knowledge to help you anticipate what a reading text contains. after looking at the title, for example, you can ask yourself what you know
