Withatoneofyearning,thenarratorannouncesthatheistheonemanwhonotonlyrecognizedthephysicalcharmsofthiswoman,butalsolovedherintrinsicnature,her“pilgrimsoul”thisreferencealsoconveysafeelingofotherworldlinessasweassociatetheword“pilgrim”withsomeonewhojourneysafar,anon-conformistorfree-spiritwhoisperhapsseekingasacredplaceofdevotion.Theselinesalsoconveythefeelingofreverencethepoethasforthiswoman.Sheishisideal.Yeatsneverusesthefirstpersonsingularhere.Heavoidssaying“lovedyourPilgrimsoulandsorrowsofyourchangingface.”Hecreatesadistancebetweenhimselfandhismuseandretainsananonymityamongherotherworshippers,whichheconfirmsinthefinalquatrain.

Inthisquatrain,thewomanisearth-boundasweseeherbendingdownbythewarmthofthefire;sheisnolongertheetherealimageofthesecondquatrain.Here,thepoetdoesnotunleashaflurryofbitterrecriminationsatherbecauseofhisunrequitedlove,but,instead,offersaself-effacingdeclarationofhisdevotion.
