3、别情态动词有现在时和过去时两种时态变化。*They must be on the playground. 他们一定在操场上。3. 构成否定句时， not放在其后面。*I cant catch the last bus. 我赶不上末班公交车了。4. 情态动词后接动词原形。*Reading can be a challenging task. 阅读是一项富有挑战性的任务。【基本特征】1. be able to 后跟动词原形，表示具体的能力，与can 的用法相近。*Little Ted is not able to answer the teachers question. 小泰德回答不了老师的问题

4、。2. be able to与can的区别：(1) be able to 有更多的时态形式， can只有一般现在时和一般过去时两种时态形式。*Will you be able to come to my birthday party next Sunday? 你下周日能来参加我的生日聚会吗? *I havent been able to get much work done today.我今天未能做多少工作。【be able to 的用法】1. be able to 后跟动词原形，表示具体的能力，(2)was/were able to do sth. 表示过去成功做成了某事，相当于succee

5、ded in doing sth. 。could 仅表示客观上有某种能力，不说明实施该能力后的结果。*He was able to hold back his anger and avoid a fight. 他忍住了怒气，避免了一场斗殴。*By the time she was eight, she could read Greek and Latin. 她八岁就会读希腊文和拉丁文了。(3)be able to可用在 may/might, want 之后。*I want my grandma to be able to use a computer. 我希望我的奶奶能使用电脑。*He may

6、 be able to leave hospital early next week. 他下周初也许就可以出院了。(2)was/were able to do sth. 表1. have to 意为“不得不，必须”。后跟动词原形。*I have to be off now. The train is leaving in an hour. 我得走了。火车一小时之后就要开了。2. have to与must的区别：(1) must 强调说话者的主观意愿； have to 强调客观上的必要性。*The last bus left, and John had to walk home. 最后一班公共汽

7、车走了，约翰只好步行回家了。*I must finish the paper by noon. 中午之前我必须完成这个论文。(2) mustnt 不许，不可以，表示禁止；not have to 不必。*You mustnt be late for the exam.你考试一定不要迟到。*Ann doesnt have to cook for herself. She works at a hotel and gets all her meals there. 安没有必要自己做饭。她在一家酒店工作，也是在那里用餐。【have to 的用法】1. have to 意为“不得不，必须”。后跟动词原形

8、。had better 后跟动词原形，表示“最好”，其否定形式，是在 had better 后加 not。*You had better not talk with strangers. 你最好不要和陌生人讲话。*Youd better not stay up late. 你最好不要熬夜。*One had better see life in its various aspects when young. 一个人最好在年轻时就能看到生活的各个方面。【had better 的用法】had better 后跟动词原形，表示“最好”，其否定need 和dare 既可用作情态动词，也可用作实义动词。用
