broughtaboutbypeople'slongingforthrill,somethingtheyusuallygetfromwatchingaction

moviesorridingarollercoaster.

Inthestudy,97participants,bothmaleandfemale,wereaskedtofillout

questionnairesabouttheirpersonality,fbrexample,whethertheylikenewexperiencesor

tendtoavoidrisks.Theywerethengivenaglassofwaterwithcapsaicin(辣椒素),the

plantchemicalthatmakesachiliburn,mixedintoit.

Bycomparingtheanswerstothequestionnaireandwhatparticipantssaidtheyfeltabout

thespicywater,researchersfoundthatthosewhotendedtoenjoyactionmoviesortakerisks

wereaboutsixtimesmorelikelytoenjoythespicywater.
