The way to construct an introductory paragraph n A Model Introductory Paragraph Observed: n Owing to the development of national economy, people have become richer. With more money in pockets, they want to enjoy their lives in a modernized way. Some will buy new houses. Others would like to have their private cars. I prefer to travel all over the world. Asking rhetorical questions -to make the readers think, and to search for the answer n5. Using interesting quota-tions -to arouse the readers curiosity n6. Using statistics -to establish the writer as the authority on the subject - to gain the readers confi-dence n7. Using vivid contrast - to sharpen the characteri-stics of the subject concerned n8. Using historical infor- mation -to trace the origin of the subject stated n9. Using humor -to amuse the readers -to lure him to go through the essay n10. Using figurative language -give a vivid impression of the subject stated The way to write a conclusion nAim -to summarize or reinforce the main points of the essay -(to make a final comment on the subject) nNotice: no new ideas or points to be discussed in the conclusion n1. Ending with a relevant or thought-provoking quotation nTwo approaches: Repeating an earlier quotation but give it a new meaning. Supplying a new quotation from a recognized authority in the field. nAs Arnold says, “No pain, no gain.” As long as the pain is so little and the gain is so great, I will continue to keep the body-building exercise. n2.
