parents decided that our charming little house was no longer the ideal place we lived and that it was time to move. And naturally,I panicked. At first that we would leave my childhood home was gruesome. After all, this was the place where I used to run around with friends and where I would sit for hours staring out of the window, making up songs about the passersby. If we were to move, the new house wouldnt be my home at all, just a strange, new place.Id come to terms with the idea of leaving childhood things behind, despite the fact that the decision to move wasnt mine. And then it hit me:this was what the move was really about.I wasnt concerned with losing my childhood bedroom,or having to take an extra bus to get to school. What was bothering me was that Id be faced with a huge reminder that Id soon be completely responsible for myself. When I do go to university,Ill go without a safe place to come home to.Of course,Ill have my familys love and support, but symbolically Ill never be able to go home again. As graduating high-school students, were all in love with the idea of going away and having wild adventures, provided we always have some place to return to.Leaving the family home behind is really just growing up without a safety net.Its not a great change, but still nothing to smell. The move from one place in life to another is an important one.Because its true;you can never go home. Not really. But maybe, once youve had an adventure or two,you can go back for a nice visit.1.When did the writers parents decide to move?A.After he went to college.B.At the age of his behaviors. But now scientists are giving this feeling an empirical(经验的,实证的)basis. They are discovering how to design spaces that promote creativity, keep people focused and lead to relaxation.Researches show that aspects of the physical environment can influence creativity. In 2007,Joan Meyers-Levy at the University of Minnesota, reported that the height of a rooms ceiling affects how people think. Her research indicates that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely, which may lead them to make more abstract connections.Low ceilings,on the other hand, may inspire a more detailed outlook. In additions to ceiling height, the view afforded by a building may influence an occupants ability to concentrate.Nancy Wells and her colleagues at Cornell University found in their study that kids who experienced the greatest increase in greenness as a result of a family move made the most gains on a standard test of attention.Using nature to improve focus of attention ought to pay off academically, and it seems to,according to a study led by C.Kenneth Tanner, head of the School Design & Planning Laboratory at the University of Georgia.Tanner and his team found that students in classrooms with unblocked views of at least 50 feet outside the window had higher scores on tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than did students whose classrooms primarily overlooked roads and parking lots.Recent study on room lighting design suggests than dim light helps people to loosen up.If that is true generally, keeping the light low during dinner or at parties could increase relaxation.Researchers of Harvard Medical School also discovered that furniture with rounded edges could help visitors relax. So far scientists have focused mainly on public buildings.“We have a very limited number of studies,so were almost looking at the problem through a straw,” architect David Allison says.“How do you take answers to very specific questions and make broad, generalized use of them?Thats what were all struggling with.”6.What does Joan Meyers-Levy focus on in her research?A.Light.B.Ceilings.C.Windows.D.Furniture.提示:细节理解题。根据第二段内容可知琼主要关注屋顶研究方面。答案:B7.The passage te
