练习1(计空格字符数537个,非中文单词105个) How Old Is She A woman was having some trouble with her heart, so she went to see the doctor. He was a new doctor, and did not know her. So he first asked some questions, and one of them was, “How old are you?” “Well,” she answered, “I dont remember. Doctor, but I will try to think.” She thought for a minute and then said, “Yes. I remember now, doctor! When I married, I was eighteen years old, and my husband was thirty. Now my husband is sixty, I know. And that is twice thirty. So I am twice eighteen. That is thirty-six, isnt it?”,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习2(计空格字符数407个,非中文单词100个) But the Chinese Did One day Tom said to one of his friends, “Im going to have a holiday in Peking. But I dont speak Chinese, so Ill go to evening classes and have Chinese lessons for a month before I go.” He studied very hard for a month, and then his holidays began and he went to China. When he came back a few weeks later, his friend said to him, “Did you have any trouble with your Chinese when you were in Peking, Tom?” “No, I didnt have any trouble with it,” answered Tom. “But the Chinese did!”,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习3(计空格字符数870,非中文单词171) There Is Something Very Nice Inside Your Drum It was Jimmys birthday, and he was five years old. He got quite a lot of nice birthday presents from his family, and one of them was a beautiful big drum. “Who gave him that thing?” Jimmys father said when he saw it. “His grandfather did,” answered Jimmys mother. “Oh,” said his father. Of course, Jimmy liked his drum very much. He made a terrible noise with it, but his mother did not mind. His father was working during the day, and Jimmy was in bed when he got home in the evening, so he did not hear the noise. But one of the neighbours did not like the noise at all, so one morning a few days later; she took a sharp knife and went to Jimmys house while he was hitting his drum. She said to him, “Hullo, Jimmy. Do you know theres something very nice inside your drum? Heres a knife. Open the drum and lets find it. ”,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习4(计空格字符数782个,非中文单词154个) How Did You Lose Your Way Mrs Browns old grandfather lived with her and her husband. Every morning he went for a walk in the park and came home at half past twelve for his lunch. But one morning a police car stopped outside Mrs Browns house at twelve oclock, and two policemen helped Mr Brown to get out. One of them said to Mrs Brown, “The poor old gentleman lost his way in the park and telephoned to us for help, so, we sent a car to bring him home.” Mrs Brown was very surprised, but she thanked the policemen and they left. “But, Grandfather” she then said, “You have been to that park nearly every day for twenty years. How did you lose your way there?” The old man smiled, closed one eye and said, “I didnt quite lose my way. I just got tired and I didnt want to walk home! ”,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习5(计空格字符数853个,非中文单词156个) My Dishwasher Mrs Williams lived in a small street in London, and now she had a new neighbour. Her name was Mrs Briggs, and she talked a lot about her expensive furniture, her beautiful carpets and her new kitchen. “Do you know” she said to Mrs Williams one day, “Ive got a new dishwasher. It washes the plates and glasses and knives and forks beautifully. ” “Oh?” Mrs Williams answered. “And does it dry them and put them in the cupboard too?” Mrs Briggs was surprised. “Well,” she answered, “the things in the machine are dry after an hour, but it doesnt put them away, of course.” “Ive had a dishwasher for twelve and a half years,” Mrs Williams said. “Oh?” Mrs Briggs answered. “And does yours put the things in the cupboard when it has washed them?” She laughed nastily. “Yes, he does,” Mrs Williams answered. “He dries the dishes and puts them away.”,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习6(计空格字符数806个,非中文单词156个) How to Make Everybody Happy Peters uncle lived in the country. Once Peter went to stay with him for a few weeks. Whenever they went for a walk or for a drive in the car and they passed somebody, his uncle waved. Peter was surprised, and said, “Uncle George, you know everybody here. Where did you meet them all?” “I dont know all these people.” said his uncle. “Then why do you wave to them?” asked Peter. “Well, Peter,” answered his uncle, “when I wave to someone and he knows me, he is pleased. He continues his journey with a happier heart.” But when I wave to someone and he doesnt know me, he is surprised and says to himself who is that man? Why did he wave to me? So he has something to think about during the rest of his journey, and that makes his journey seem shorter. So I make everybody happy.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习7(计空格字符数710个,非中文单词146个) After a Heavy Snowstorm One night there was a heavy snowstorm, and in the morning Mr Smiths garden was full of deep snow. Mr Smith wanted to take his car out, so he paid a man to clean the path from his garage to his gate. He said to this man, “Dont throw any snow on that side, because it will damage the bushes in my garden; and dont throw any snow into the street, or the police will be angry.” Then Mr Smith went out. When he came back, the path was clean and the snow from it was not on the bushes, or the fence, or the street. Mr Smith was very pleased-until he opened the garage to get his car out! The garage was full to the top with all the snow from the path, and his car was somewhere under it all!,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习8(计空格字符数4580个,非中文单词887个) I Will Persist Until I Succeed In the Orient young bulls are tested for the fight arena in a certain manner. Each is brought to the ring and allowed to attack a picador who pricks them with a lance. The bravery of each bull is then rated with care according to the number of times he demonstrates his willingness to charge in spite of the sting of the blade. Henceforth will I recognize that each day I am tested by life in like manner? If I persist, if I continue to try, if I continue to charge forward, I will succeed. I will persist until I succeed. I was not delivered unto this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,I will persist until I succeed. The prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. Never will I know how close it lies unless I turn the corner. Always will I take another step? If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult. I will persist until I succeed. Henceforth, I will consider each days effort as but one blow of my blade against a mighty oak. The first blow may cause not a tremor in the wood, or the second, or the third. Each blow, of itself, may be trifling, and seem of no consequence. Yet from childish swipes the oak will eventually tumble. So it will be with my efforts of today. I will be liken to the rain drop which washes away the mountain; the ant who devours a tiger; the star which brightens the earth; the slave who builds a pyramid. I will build my castle one brick at a time for I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,I will persist until I succeed. I will never consider defeat and I will remove from my vocabulary such words and phrases as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the question, improbable, failure, unworkable, hopeless, and retreat; for they are the words of fools. I will avoid despair but if this disease of the mind should infect me then I will work on in despair. I will toil and I will endure. I will ignore the obstacles at my feet and keep mine eyes on the goals above my head, for I know that where dry desert ends, green grass grows. I will persist until I succeed. I will remember the ancient law of averages and I will bend it to my good. I will persist with knowledge that each failure to sell will increase my chance for success at the next attempt. Each nay I hear will bring me closer to the sound of yea. Each frown I meet only prepares me for the smile to come. Each misfortune I encounter will carry in it the seed of tomorrows good luck. I must have the night to appreciate the day. I must fail often to succeed only once. I will persist until I succeed. I must have the night to appreciate the day. I must fail often to succeed only once.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,I will persist until I succeed. Henceforth, I will learn and apply another secret of those who excel in my work. When each day is ended, not regarding whether it has been a success or a failure, I will attempt to achieve one more sale. When my thoughts beckon my tired body homeward I will resist the temptation to depart. I will try again. I will make one more attempt to close with victory, and if that fails I will make another. Never will I allow any day to end with a failure. Thus will I plant the seed of tomorrows success and gain an insurmountable advantage over those who cease their labor at a prescribed time. When others cease their struggle, the mine will begin, and my harvest will be full. I will persist until I succeed. Nor will I allow yesterdays success to lull me into todays complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure. I will forget the happenings of the day that is gone, whether they were good or bad, and greet the new sun with confidence that this will be the best day of my life. So long as there is breath in me, that long will I persist. For now I know one of the greatest principles of success; if I persist long enough I will win. I will persist. I will win.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习9(计空格字符数4494个,非中文单词854个) Today I Will Be Master of My Emotions The tides advance; the tides recede. Winter goes and summer comes; summer wanes and the cold increases. The sun rises; the sun sets. The moon is full; the moon is black. The birds arrive; the birds depart. Flowers bloom; flowers fade. Seeds are sown; harvests are reaped. all nature is a circle of moods and I am a part of nature and so, like the tides, my moods will rise; my moods will fall. Today I will be master of my emotions. It is one of natures tricks, little understood, that each day I awaken with moods that have changed from yesterday. Yesterdays joy will become todays sadness; yet todays sadness will grow into tomorrows joy. Inside me is a wheel, constantly turning from sadness to joy, from exultation to depression, from happiness to melancholy. Like the flowers, todays full bloom of joy will fade and wither into despondency, yet I will remember that as todays dead flower carries the seed of tomorrows bloom so, too, does todays sadness carry the seed of tomorrows joy.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,Today I will be master of my emotions. And how will I master these emotions so that each day will be productive? For unless my mood is right the day will be a failure. Trees and plants depend on the weather to flourish but I make my own weather, yea I transport it with me. If I bring rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism to my customers then they will react with rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism and they will purchase naught. If I bring joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter to my customers they will react with joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter and my weather will produce a harvest of sales and a granary of gold for me. Today I will be master of my emotions. And how will I master my emotions so that every day is a happy day, and a productive one? I will learn this secret of the ages: Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts. Each day, when I awaken, I will follow this plan of battle before I am captured by the forces of sadness, self-pity and failure-,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,If I feel depressed I will sing. If I feel sad I will laugh. If I feel ill I will double my labor. If I feel fear I will plunge ahead. If I feel inferior I will wear new garments. If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice. If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come. If I feel incompetent I will remember past success. If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals. Today I will be master of my emotions. Henceforth, I will know that only those with inferior ability can always be at their best, and I am not inferior. There will be days when I must IN THE WORLD constantly struggle against forces which would tear me down. Those such as despair and sadness are simple to recognize but there are others which approach with a smile and the hand of friendship and they can also destroy me. Against them, too, I must never relinquish control-,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,If I become overconfident I will recall my failures. If I overindulge I will think of past hungers. If I feel complacency I will remember my competition. If I enjoy moments of greatness I will remember moments of shame. If I feel all-powerful I will try to stop the wind. lf I attain great wealth I will remember one unfed mouth. If I become overly proud I will remember a moment of weakness. If I feel my skill is unmatched I will look at the stars. Today I will be master of my emotions. And with this new knowledge I will also understand and recognize the moods of him on whom I call. I will make allowances for his anger and irritation of today for he knows not the secret of controlling his mind. I can withstand his arrows and insults for now I know that tomorrow he will change and be a joy to approach.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,No longer will I judge a man on one meeting; no longer will I fail to call again tomorrow on he who meets me with hate today. This day he will not buy gold chariots for a penny, yet tomorrow he would exchange his home for a tree. My knowledge of this secret will be my key to great wealth. Today I will be master of my emotions. Henceforth I will recognize and identify the mystery of moods in all mankind, and in me. From this moment I am prepared to control whatever personality awakes in me each day. I will master my moods through positive action and when I master my moods I will control my destiny. Today I control my destiny, and my destiny is to become the greatest salesman in the world! I will become master of myself. I will become great.,11.2 英文打字速度训练与自我检测,练习10(计空格字符数4113个,非中文单词815个) I Will Act Now My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action. I will act now. Never has there been a map, however carefully executed to detail and scale, which carried its owner over even one inch of ground. Never has there been a parchment of law, however fair, which prevented one crime. Never has there been a scroll, even such as the one I hold, which earned so much as a penny or produced a single word of acclamation. Action, alone, is the tinder which ignites the map, the parchment, this scroll, my dreams, my plans, my goals, into a living force. Action is the food and drink which will nourish my
